Our Director - Joy M. Suh
Joy Magalit
Suh is the director of Tri-City Youth Chorus and has a passion for sharing the
love of music with children. Most recently, she directed the Glee Club of
Kimber Hills Academy. For the past six years, she has volunteered as a Docent
for Music for Minors II at John Gomes Elementary School, keeping the arts alive
in the public schools by teaching music in the classrooms. At Gomes, she
directed the musicals “How the West was Really Won”, “The Adventures of Lewis
and Clark” and “Dig It!” She was also the music director for StarStruck Theatre’s
summer camp production of “Mulan, Jr.” Joy
earned a B.A. in Mathematics from Wheaton College (IL) and an M.S. in Applied
Mathematics from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Professionally, she
is an Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society. She worked as an actuary in
Connecticut and Illinois, before moving to the Bay Area and becoming a
stay-at-home mom. She and her husband have three children, who are now in junior
high, high school, and college.
Along with teaching music, Joy has numerous other interests. A believer in life-long learning, she taught herself how to knit, and enjoys reading, staying active, and singing in her church choir. Her latest hobby is “developing” her photography skills and sharing her creative endeavors on Instagram (@joyfulsuh) and facebook.
